About CPB Merch Store
Chennai Photo Biennale was founded by the CPB Foundation and Goethe-Institut, Chennai in 2016 as a public arts initiative in response to the growing interest in photography in India, specifically in Chennai. The CPB Foundation is a non-profit charitable trust engaged in promoting photographic art, meaningful socio-cultural discussion and educational activities. Active around the year, the Chennai Photo Biennale is its primary activity.
Support the CPB Foundation
We are a non-profit organisation funded primarily through donations. All proceeds from sale of merchandise and collectables will go directly to supporting the CPB Foundation and its educational activities. While the biennale is the larger goal that the foundation works towards, our focus is primarily on visual art education and building the photography community.
Chennai Photo Biennale aims to make photography accessible to everyone. Our designs are custom made for all the photography enthusiasts out there. Photography has the potential to reach people from diverse backgrounds. It can make the world felt. And this felt feeling may spur thinking, engagement, and even action.
"A camera is a tool for learning how to see without a camera." – Dorthea Lange.
Conceptualised and designed in collaboration with Madhavan Palanisamy and Radha Rathi for the 2019 Biennale, the camera head series renders how the eye of the photographer is the tool that captures the image.
Smudge Design Studio
Our design partner for the last edition, Smudge was the creator of our merchandise program. Through their wonderful efforts, they have developed the designs that depict the awesomeness of Madras in our products. Smudge commissioned Chennai based artist Bhavya Desai to create a series of camera head illustrations that are a peek into the city!
Downcycling. We believe in zero-waste management. Materials including canvas, flex, foam boards and alike used during the Chennai Photo Biennale 2019 exhibitions are now re-designed to bring you a selection of collectables to choose from. The first edition of which includes the tote bags designed using Atul Bhalla's photographs from the series, "Edge of the Ocean".
Photography is a medium that breaks barriers, engages students and democratically teaches story-telling. CPB aims to tap the potential in children and nurture them through its visual education program. A collection of photographs made by the students from our photo camps exhibited during the Chennai Photo Biennale 2019 are now available as a collection of postcards books.
