The Ricoh XR-S is a 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera introduced in the early 1980s, known for being the world’s first solar-powered SLR. Designed with innovation in mind, it features dual solar panels that continuously charge its internal Battery-S, allowing for years of operation without replacing the battery. This, combined with its electronically controlled shutter and versatile exposure modes, makes it a standout choice for both casual and serious film photographers.

The XR-S offers aperture-priority auto-exposure (AE) mode alongside manual exposure control, giving photographers creative flexibility. Its quartz-controlled shutter provides speeds from 1/1000 to 16 seconds, with a Bulb mode for long exposures. The through-the-lens (TTL) metering system ensures precise exposure, while the multi-informational LCD viewfinder displays shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation, and battery status, making it easy to adjust settings while shooting. The ISO range extends from 12 to 3200, supporting a wide variety of film stocks.

This camera ships with a RICOH RIKENON 50mm f2.0 lens. The Ricoh XR-S is compatible with Ricoh RK-mount lenses, allowing access to a broad selection of focal lengths. It supports motor drives, auto winders, and dedicated electronic flashes, with a flash sync speed of 1/100 second. The self-timer provides a 10-second delay, with a visual and audible countdown. The camera was primarily powered by its solar-charged Battery-S but also works with 2 x LR44 batteries. The condition of the solar cells is unknown however we have tested the camera with LR44 batteries and it works perfectly with them. The batteries are included with the camera. 

SLR cameras sold by CPB Darkroom are film-tested for shutter accuracy and light leaks. This Ricoh XR-S is certified to be in full working condition. The body and lens have been inspected, and while this is a vintage camera, it remains in excellent shape for shooting or collecting.

Please note that this is a vintage, used camera, and as such, it will show some signs of wear and tear—the images attached to the listing are of this specific camera. The body is in good condition with some minor signs of wear and tear. Viewfinder is super clean with no marks and clean view. The lens is fully functional and clean of any haze or fungus.
