Condition Description

The camera is in good mechanical condition, with only the light meter non-functional. Shutter speeds fire, film transport is smooth, and the view finder optics are clean. Rated good due to the meter issue.

The Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 (NC23) has been inspected by CPB Darkroom. The lens is clean overall, with smooth focus action and responsive aperture blades. There is a small black dot on the rear element and light traces of fungus in the middle element, neither of which appear to affect real-world image output. Cosmetically, the lens is in good condition with normal signs of use. The images shown depict the exact lens you will receive.

CPB Darkroom Inspection

Cameras are inspected for shutter accuracy, film advance, and lens clarity. Meter fault noted transparently, but otherwise the kit is mechanically reliable and film-ready.

All lenses sold by CPB Darkroom are inspected for optical clarity, mechanical reliability, and aperture responsiveness, with any issues clearly noted and reflected in the condition grade.

Background

Asahi Pentax cameras were known for their reliability and excellent build quality, forming the backbone of 35mm SLR photography in the 1960s–80s.

One of Asahi Pentax’s most iconic lenses, the Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8 is known for its sharp rendering, smooth manual focus, and beautiful classic character. With excellent micro-contrast and pleasing bokeh, it remains a favourite among film shooters and digital users adapting vintage lenses.

Lens Compatibility & Format

The body uses the Pentax K-mount, compatible with a wide range of Pentax and third-party lenses. The Camera uses standard 35mm film (color or black & white, 24 or 36 exposures).

This lens is compatible with all M42-mount film cameras and can be adapted easily to modern mirrorless systems (Sony, Canon RF, Nikon Z, Fujifilm, Micro Four Thirds) using a standard M42 adapter.
