The Canon A-1 is a 35mm single-lens reflex (SLR) film camera introduced by Canon in 1978, known for being the first SLR to offer fully automatic Program mode alongside Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, and Manual modes. As the most advanced model in Canon’s A-series, the A-1 was designed for photographers who wanted both ease of use and precise control, making it a favorite among enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Featuring an electronically controlled shutter, the A-1 offers speeds from 30 seconds to 1/1000 second, along with Bulb mode for long exposures. Its through-the-lens (TTL) metering system ensures accurate exposure in all lighting conditions, while the bright pentaprism viewfinder provides clear framing with an LED digital display showing shutter speed, aperture, and exposure compensation settings. The ISO range spans 6 to 12,800, allowing compatibility with a wide variety of film stocks.

This camera ships with a CANON FD 50 mm f2.0 lens. The A-1 is compatible with Canon FD-mount lenses, as well as older FL and R lenses with some limitations. It supports dedicated Speedlite flashes, with a flash sync speed of 1/60 second, and includes a self-timer function with 2-second and 10-second delay options. The camera is electronically powered, requiring a 6V battery 4x LR44 which is included with the camera.
