Intro to B&W 16mm

Shoot → Develop

This introductory shoot-to-develop workshop covers the basics of working with 16mm film and cameras. We reveal a prompt (sometimes with models or props present) after-which the workshop takes form as a filmmaking relay of sorts, where participants each get a turn to direct and shoot their shot. The film is then developed by participants at the lab and a collective sequence is spliced together in the order it was shot.

About the CPB Community Darkroom

We are at a pivotal moment in photographic history.
With the rise of AI-generated imagery, the sanctity and materiality of the photograph are being redefined. In response, the CPB Community Darkroom was established as a hub for the practice, research, and revival of analogue photography in all its forms.

The darkroom supports a wide range of interests — from traditional film printing to alternative processes — and welcomes artists, students, and enthusiasts alike.

Our initiatives include:

  • Regular introductory and guided instruction on contact printing and enlargement techniques

  • Research and experimentation in analogue processes.

  • Photographic paper and printing chemistry provided for practice prints
  • Use of enlargers, timers, and necessary darkroom tools

  • One final set of fine prints to take home

  • Participation in an impromptu group exhibition on the final day
