The Minolta XE (JL35), paired with the Minolta MD 50mm f/2 (JL08), has been inspected, repaired, cleaned, and tested by CPB Darkroom and is in working condition. The camera functions mechanically as intended, with all buttons, dials, manual shutter speeds, and film transport mechanisms operating correctly.

The built-in TTL light meter is operational but reads approximately one stop under. To achieve accurate exposures, this should be compensated for while metering, either by adjusting the ISO setting or manually accounting for the one-stop difference. The camera's aperture-priority automatic exposure mode is not functional, so the camera should be operated in full manual mode. These functional limitations have been reflected in the bundle's condition grade.

The included Minolta MD 50mm f/2 is in excellent working condition. The lens has mild internal dust, which does not noticeably affect practical image quality. The focus and aperture rings operate smoothly, and the aperture blades respond correctly. Cosmetically, the lens is well preserved with only light signs of use.

The camera body itself is in good cosmetic condition, showing a few signs of wear and scratches consistent with regular use. The viewfinder contains numerous black spots across the viewing screen, which may make composition slightly less comfortable, particularly in low-light conditions or when viewing at smaller apertures. These spots are limited to the viewfinder and do not appear in photographs recorded on film. The images shown depict the exact camera and lens you will receive.

Introduced in the early 1970s, the Minolta XE was one of Minolta's flagship 35mm SLRs and was developed during the company's collaboration with Leica. Known for its robust all-metal construction, refined controls, and exceptionally smooth shutter operation, it remains one of Minolta's most respected manual-focus cameras. This particular camera should be treated as a manual-exposure SLR due to its non-functional automatic exposure mode and compensated for appropriately due to the meter's one-stop discrepancy.

Paired with the compact Minolta MD 50mm f/2, the kit offers a natural field of view and versatile optical performance for portraits, street photography, documentary work, travel, and everyday shooting. The lens's f/2 maximum aperture also provides useful low-light capability and pleasing background separation while keeping the overall kit relatively compact.

This camera uses standard 35mm (135) film, producing images in the 24 × 36 mm format.

Camera and lens kits sold by CPB Darkroom are inspected for shutter operation, metering response, film transport reliability, optical clarity, focusing and aperture operation, and overall mechanical functionality. Any cosmetic, optical, or functional limitations are clearly described and reflected in the condition grade.
