Background

The Nikon FM2, released in 1982, is one of Nikon’s most legendary manual focus 35mm SLR cameras. Revered for its durability, reliability, and fully mechanical shutter, the FM2 became a favorite among professional photographers and serious enthusiasts alike. Its titanium-blade shutter (later aluminum in the FM2n) is capable of speeds up to 1/4000 sec—a rare feature for its time—making it one of the fastest mechanical shutters ever made.

Lens Compatibility & Format

The FM2 uses the Nikon F-mount, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of Nikkor AI and AI-S lenses, as well as many third-party options. It accepts standard 35mm film (color or black & white, 24 or 36 exposures) and offers full manual control over shutter speed, aperture, and focus—ideal for learning or mastering photography fundamentals.
